My 2024 word of the year was ALLOW.
I invited myself to consider an “and approach” rather than default to “or.” Dark and light. Cold and hot. Him and her. Wins and losses.
One day as I was driving, I reflected on ways to incorporate allowance. I thought about how vehicles provide convenience, shuttle services, protection, road trips. I also use my car as a mobile music machine.
Vehicles can lead to monthly payments, expensive repairs, maintenance, accidents, road rage, and traffic jams. However, many people choose a vehicle’s benefits over its drawbacks. We allow its assets and liabilities of ownership. We anticipate adventures and mishaps. Some of us more readily accept the blend of paved highways and roadblock delays.

The more I practiced ALLOW, the more I gained a newfound anticipation of ups and downs. I changed my outlook of “good, bad, ugly” to “good, different (according to me), and unexpected (again, according to what I expected).
I’ve found that when I open myself to allow, anticipate and accept the sweet and sour pieces of life, my mind is clearer, and my heart is lighter. This insight led me to choose HARMONY as my word of 2025. I’ll allow more growth to follow…
Anticipating the wonder of a child and courage of a warrior,
