Between Christmas and New Year’s, I review a few of my journals. I discovered wisdom, collected from many conversations. Here are some of my favorites:

“To regain focus, I ask myself, ‘If I had to start over with only one person, one possession and one purpose, what would that be?’”
“When I’m tempted to whine, I ask myself, ‘What if whatever I fussed about was taken out of my life? For example, if I complain about my light bill, I could shut off my electricity. It’d be inconvenient in winter and summer, but I have options. Traffic woes? Sell the car, walk, carpool, or take public transportation. Annoying co-worker? Get a different job. When I think of consequences in those terms, I gain new perspective.”
“My favorite song after my wife and I have an argument is “Broken Together” by Casting Crowns. It reminds us that we’ve got more common ground than we thought. Rather than asking, ‘what went wrong and how can we fix it?’ we can heal when we talk about what we do right and do more of those things.”
A friend’s widowed mother reflected on her marriage and said, “Now, I regret that every time we distanced from each other, we put ourselves into sort of a voluntary widowhood. The longer my husband is gone, the harder it is to accept life without him.”
“In some relationships, I feel like I’m always the one initiating communication and invitations. One day I asked myself, “I wonder who checked on Jesus to see how He was doing? Who asked Him how they could support Him or promote His cause? Woke me right up!”

Friend, I hope these five nuggets from my diary give you fresh thoughts. Please help us spread sunshine, one kind smile at a time.
Peace,
Christina
