“Since the people began to bring their contributions to the temple of the Lord, we have had enough to eat and plenty to spare, because the Lord has blessed his people, and this great amount is left over” (2 Chron. 31:10).
I recently rode with a “proactive driver,” commonly known as a defensive driver. We traveled a fast-paced parkway and as we approached a hill, someone pulled in front of us. Fortunately, my friend stopped before we collided.
I was grateful for his quick reflexes, sturdy brakes, and rugged tires. I was also thankful he only tapped the car horn this time. Typically, he takes a horn of plenty approach when someone handles their vehicle differently than he does. Ahem.
We continued driving and when I sensed he had calmed after the near collision, I said how thankful I was for what didn’t happen. I told him about a new approach I’ve practiced when circumstances don’t align with my outlook.
For example, what would this traffic situation looked like without the hiccup factors? If I didn’t have my sight, I wouldn’t be driving. If I didn’t have a job, I couldn’t afford the vehicle, license, insurance or gas. If I had been riding with someone else, our outcome may have been altered.
I’ve had numerous driving experiences where I’ve arrived safely and timely. I’m grateful for the people I haven’t met through roadway accidents. If my driving privileges were removed, I’d miss freedom to travel. Sometimes those trips include proverbial road rash, but I can arrive peacefully when I’m grateful for life’s colorful road trip.
God offers protection and provision when I follow His thoroughfare. Lord, thank you for being my defensive driver. Under your watchful eye, I am an eternally protected passenger.
