I WANT TO BE LIKE THEM!

“In the midst of a very severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity” (2 Cor. 8:2).

I want to be like that.

I want to copy their example!

After reading 2 Corinthians 8, I’d love to show up for life like the Macedonians did. Paul’s message to the Corinthians remains timeless. We’ll always be in the middle of what seems at the time to be a severe trial. We’ve either faced, are facing or will face a situation that is different than we expect. During these “surprise” moments, I overlook opportunities to be generous because I’m focused on my trouble.

Paul wrote that even through extreme poverty and trials, the Macedonians generously served and shared their overflowing joy. I’ve lived through lean circumstances. Fortunately, I’ve never experienced extreme poverty. I’ve relished overflowing joy that deeply radiates from my spirit. Sweet and sour. That aromatic blend seasons my soul food.

In 2 Corinthians 8:2, Paul summarizes life’s colorful jumble. Trials, joy, poverty and yet. And yet. The end-product is rich generosity. Everyone has trials, poverties and treasures. We’re designed that way for this earthly experience. We’re invited to indulge in life’s spicy recipe and generously serve God and His creation.

Creator, thank you for an exhilarating life. Teach me to generously blend laughter with learning. Encourage me to lavishly love all of this earthly mission.
